ST. JOHNSBURY/BURKE HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION

Saturday, September 28, 2019 from 9 am to 1 pm the Town of St Johnsbury, the Town of Burke, Casella Waste Management, Inc. and the Agency of Natural Resources will be co-sponsoring a Fall Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day. This event will be held at the St Johnsbury Municipal Parking Lot on North Main Street behind the Public Safety Building at 1187 Main Street.
Residents and small business in the Town of St. Johnsbury or Burke can bring up to 10 gallons of household hazardous wastes at no charge including:
Additionally all your pesticides, oil based and latex architectural paints and alkaline batteries can be disposed of at no charge at the event. Residents can also bring all their compact fluorescent lamps and up to 10 additional fluorescent tubes at no charge. We will also provide a $5.00 rebate for complete mercury thermostats, and new electronic thermometers for mercury thermometers.
We request that conditionally exempt small quantity generators of hazardous waste who are participating in this event preregister by calling the St. Johnsbury Town Manager’s Office at 748-3926 by September 25, 2019 and indicate the type and approximate quantity of waste you are bringing to this event. These businesses are encouraged to come to this event between 9 am and 11 am if possible.
While you're at the Household Hazardous Waste Collection, you can visit the paint drop and swap.
We cannot accept explosives, ammunition, asbestos, propane and other compressed gas cylinders, appliances, fire extinguishers, radioactive or infectious waste or used motor oil.
Used motor oil, appliances and one pound propane cylinders can be brought to the Casella Transfer Station on High Street in St. Johnsbury for disposal for a fee. Car and pickup truck tires with or without rims will be accepted on September 28, 2019 for $2.50 each.
