Household Hazardous Waste (St. Johnsbury will be hosting Household Hazardous Waste days periodically during the year. The 2018 dates are May 19th and Sept. 22rd, 9am-1pm, Main St. Municipal Parking lot behind the Fire Station- St Johnsbury residents can also attend the July 21, 2018 event at 51 Town Garage Road in the Town of West Burke.
In order to accomplish the expanded requirements in the Materials Management Plan, St. Johnsbury has teamed with the Town of Burke for the third required collections in 2017 and will continue this for 2018 and for the four events in 2019. Four events will be held on May 18 and September 28, 2019 in St. Johnsbury and July 20 and October 19, 2019 in the Town of Burke. All the collections will be held at the sites designated in previous events.
Residents and pre-registered Conditionally Exempt Small Quantity Generators are invited to participate in these events. Residents can bring all of their architectural paints, pesticides, fluorescent lamps, mercury thermostats and primary batteries at no charge and an additional ten gallons of liquid or 10 pounds of solid hazardous waste at no charge at these events. Any solid or liquid HHW over these amounts would be assessed a $4.00 per unit fee. A digital thermometer for mercury fever thermometer swap will be held at the Collection Day Events. A Paint and Other Materials Drop and Swap will be available at each of the events.
