The St. Johnsbury Fire Department places a large emphasis on training to keep all of its members proficient in the many skills necessary to serve our community. St. Johnsbury Firefighters provide emergency medical care at the EMT-Basic and EMT-Advanced levels and are certified by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians. Along with fire suppression and vehicle extrication firefighters are trained in confined space, swift water, collapse, and trench rescue. They receive certifications in all of these disciplines from the Vermont State Fire Academy. Maintaining the diverse skill sets listed above demands a robust training regimen for both career and paid on-call personnel. Career members build time for training into their twenty-four hour shifts as well as attending several department-wide drills every month. Call members also attend the department-wide drills and serve a crucial role in providing adequate manpower to serve the town of St. Johnsbury.
