SELECTBOARD

Selectboard

The Selectboard is responsible for “the general supervision of the affairs of the town and shall cause to be performed all duties required of towns and town school districts not committed by law to the care of any particular officer.” 24 V.S.A. § 872. This means that if something needs to be done, or a decision must be made that is necessary for a municipality to function, and no statute grants a specific local official the authority to perform that function, the particular duty will fall to the selectboard.

All actions of the Selectboard and elected and appointed positions are governed by Vermont Municipal Law as documented in "Municipal Law Basics" published by the Vermont Secretary of State. "The Municipal Index of Laws affecting Local Goverment" provides a reference to State Statutes that set precedence for Local Ordinance.

The Selectboard meets on the second and fourth Monday nights of each month, unless otherwise noted. All meetings are held at 6:00pm on the first floor of the Pomerleau Builing at 51 Depot Square and all meetings are open to the public. Selectbard Meetings schedules are published on the Town website. Agendas and approved minutes from all public meetings are available to the public in the Town Government Document Library.
